Zone 2 takes you from the state capital - Pretoria - through to Kroonstad, south of Johannesburg. Pretoria, known as Jacaranda City due to its 70000 trees scattered throughout the city, boasts historical sites like the Union Buildings, Church Square and a variety of museums and monuments which are mostly within walking distance of accommodation offered in the town centre. The Pretoria Zoo with its 3 000+ animals is rated one of the best in the world, and their aquarium has in excess of 300 freshwater and marine fish species. This city has a vibrancy of its own with many restaurants and clubs to choose from.
Midrand is a very convenient location for those visiting the Gauteng area, being positioned between Pretoria and Johannesburg. This area is home to the Lipizzaner Centre. South Africa and Austria are the only places in the world that breed and train these white stallions.
Johannesburg is for history, theatre and shopping. The offerings are too many to mention. However, some of the more popular centres out of the city are Rosebank, Sandton and Fourways. Here you will find craft markets, shopping malls, art galleries, bars, clubs, casinos and cinemas. Many golf courses, a great zoo and restaurants to cater to every palate.
