Zone 4 starts at the top of the northern Cape. Less than an hours drive from Colesberg is the real halfway point between Johannesburg and Cape Town - Hanover. It is a small town with a history, a hotel and dusty strrets Ð an interesting stop. On to the Karoo with its rich desert flora. Beaufort West is the oldest town in the Karoo and in the centre of a large plateau. Amongst its many claims to fame, is the town hall which is the oldest in the country. Touwsrivier has a wonderful nature reserve which is a hikers paradise and home to abundant wildlife. De Doorns, in the heart of the Hex River Valley, is quite stunning. This area is the largest producer of table grapes in Southern Africa. The valley is surrounded by the magnificent Hex River Mountains. At the very end of this highway lies South Africa's second largest city Ð Cape Town. A cosmopolitan, vibrant city surrounded by its grand mountain - Table Mountain and the sea. The city is an intriguing mix of old and new buildings. There are many restaurants, malls, markets, gardens, beaches and the waterfront.
